Eat The Cookie, But Do Your Squats. Holiday Dinner Survival Tips

Its that time of year again, we get caught up on the Christmas treats and forget about our goals and current progress. Sure I could sit here and tell you to skip the treats and blah blah blah, but that's not very realistic now is it? Here's a few tips to keep in mind when enjoying this Holiday season - treats included!

1. Don't Forget to Exercise

This time of year may be tight between family activities, dinners, and visiting, but don't forget to get at least 30 minutes of sweat time in your day.

Knowing when dinners are ahead of time helps to plan your workouts around your meal. Aim for HIIT workouts or others that will help get your body in a state to burn more calories for longer throughout the day so you can enjoy your visiting and family activities.

2. To Eat the Carbs or Not Eat the Carbs

Eat according to your activity level. If you know you're going to be more sedentary then try Carb Cycling and go lighter on the carbs during meal time. If you are going to be more active during the holidays, make sure you fuel your body accordingly.

3. Intermittent Fasting

Give yourself an "eating window" to help curb gaining any extra lbs. An eating window (eg. 8AM-8PM) means not consuming any snacks or meals outside of the timings you set for yourself. Although consuming black coffee and calorie free drinks are okay. This method should help to reduce any late night snacking on Christmas treats.

4. Size Does Matter

So your Mom made your favourite dish for dinner, that's okay! Enjoy the dishes and treats, but be mindful of portion sizes. *Refer to using your hand as a guide for sizing, eg. closed fist = 1 cup... etc.

5. H20

Lastly, don't forget about your water intake. Consuming your bodies required amount of daily water is still important for your bodies functions.
